BC Softball Picks Up Conference Split, Defeats Hunter for First Time Since 2014

Brooklyn, NY----In their regular season finale, the Brooklyn College softball team picked up a conference split with Hunter on Monday, defeating the Hawks for the first time since 2014.  Brooklyn won Game 1, 3-2, before Hunter closed out the afternoon with a 6-0 victory.  BC heads into the CUNYAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 12-15 overall record and a 5-5 conference mark while the Hawks secured the No. 3 seed going to 12-24 and 7-3 respectively.  Next Up: Brooklyn will take on No. 1 seed John Jay in Game 1 of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament hosted at Brooklyn College Field on Thursday, May 11, at 11:00am.  Stay tuned for details!

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • Trailing 1-0, the Bulldogs scored all three of their runs in the top of the fourth inning, taking advantage of a pair of costly Hunter errors and also scoring on a wild pitch.  
  • The Bulldogs kept the Hawks scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings before Hunter threatened in the bottom of the sixth with a run on two hits and an error.  However, the Bulldogs survived with two runners left on base and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh.  
For the Bulldogs (Game 1)
  • Dasha Goodman went 1-3 and scored a run. 
  • Sandra Diaz scored BC's first run of the game as a pinch runner.  
  • Isabelle Frank went 1-3 with a double.  
  • Yesileidy Paulino scored the Bulldogs' winning run. 
  • Starting pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi, pitched all seven innings of solid softball, charged with no runs, yielding four hits while striking out eight Hunter batters. She improved to 12-14 with the win.  
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • Brooklyn had a chance to take an early lead in the top of the first inning.  However, with the bases loaded, Hunter was able to get out of the jam by retiring the next three batters while keeping the runners on base.  
  • The Brooklyn bats went quiet for the rest of the game while Hunter jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the fourth inning before tacking on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.  
For the Bulldogs (Game 2)
  • Grismarly Brito Mejia had Brooklyn's lone hit of the game in the top of the first inning on a perfectly laid-down bunt for a single. 
  • Guzzardi pitched another seven innings would only be charged with three of Hunter's six runs, yielded six hits while adding six more strikeouts for her day.
