BROOKLYN, New York ----- In a five-set thriller, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team pulled out a season-opening 3-2 (25-11, 21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12) victory over Purchase College at the West Quad Gymnasium on Wednesday. Also Purchase's season-opener, the Panthers drop to 0-1 to start the year.

How It Happened:

The Bulldogs started the game off in convincing fashion, winning the first set quickly by a score of 25-11.

The Panthers would jump right back in and steal away the second set 25-21, in a set where Brooklyn held the lead for the first half of the set before going through four more tied scores during the set.

A service ace from Jason Lin would start the third set off on the right foot. Brooklyn would trail the Panthers half of the set before rallying down the stretch to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Purchase would take an early 4-0 lead to start the fourth set and controlled the set before Brooklyn made a late run that eventually fell short leading to the deciding set.

The fifth set would also go down in a nail-biter that featured seven tied scores, but with the score tied 7-7, Brooklyn rallied for four straight scores to eventually pull away and secure the match.

Aaron Siu would lead in two categories with 14 kills and 4 aces, while also attaining 4 assists.

David Lema had a match-high 43 assists and 2 aces of his own while coming up with nine digs.

Tommy Min was heavily involved with 12 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, and 16 digs.

Jason Lin led the way with 5 blocks, while Alvaro Gonzalez anchored the defensive stand on the ground finishing with 18 digs.
