BC Women's Basketball Rolls to Sixth Straight Victory at Lehman

Bronx, NY----Playing without their top two leading scorers, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and stingy defense to pull out their sixth straight win in conference play at Lehman College, 56-37, on Friday.  Brooklyn improves to 12-6 overall and 7-1 in CUNYAC with the win while the Lightning drops to 5-15 and 4-5.

  • The Bulldogs will look for their seventh straight victory at Hunter on January 30 at 5pm as they continue their three-game conference road stretch. 
How It Happened
  • Lehman jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the contest before Brooklyn responded with a 9-0 run capped by an Aleah Rafat three-point make with 3:41 left in the first quarter.  Rafat would finish a layup to put the Bulldogs up 15-8 heading into the second quarter.
  • Brooklyn kicked their lead up to as many as 12 points in the second quarter following a Brianna Gutierrez make in the paint. The Bulldogs would head into halftime with a 23-14 advantage.
  • The Bulldogs started to pull away towards the end of the third quarter, taking a 36-22 lead on a Mary Dolgin lay-in heading into the fourth.  The Bulldogs would go on to lead by as many as 23 points in the fourth and final quarter.
  • BC held the Lightning to 25.9% shooting from the floor on the evening. 
For the Bulldogs
  • Suliat Afolabi led all scorers with 15 points.  She also came up with a team-high four steals.
  •  Senior guard, Destiny Drummond, provided the spark off of the bench, finishing with seven points and eight rebounds.
  • Senior forward, Sarah James, chipped in six points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
