Bulldogs Pull Out Important Conference Victory Over John Jay, 3-2, on Senior Day

BROOKLYN, NY---Needing a win on Wednesday evening to secure a home match for the upcoming CUNYAC Championship Tournament quarterfinals, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team came through with a clutch 3-2 victory over John Jay on Senior Night.  Led by sophomore midfielder George Koufos' hat-trick, the Bulldogs improve to 5-9-1 and 4-2-1 with the regular season finale win while the Bloodhounds drop to 3-9-1 and 2-3-1 respectively

How It Happened

It did not take long for Brooklyn to trail in this game, as an attack from the right side saw a triangle of players using a give and go that would eventually lead to a cross inside the box for the 1-0 lead for John Jay in 4'.

The Bulldogs finally broke though as Bruno Servisi was able to send a through ball to Bradlej Cupi on the right side of the attacking field. While Cupi may have had a good chance at scoring, he was able to cross it to a cutting George Koufos to tie the game 1-1 in 13'.

Brian Perea would record his only save of the game, diving to his left to stop a shot on the bottom corner in 15'.

After a turnover from the defense led to a rocket of a shot being blasted by John Jay to retake the lead 2-1 in 31', Brooklyn knew they needed to regroup at halftime.

Trailing the game by one score after hearing a passionate speech from both captains and coaches, the Bulldogs would come out of the break as a brand new team, most notably Yassin Hairane. After an offside call, Hairane would kick a hard shot that looked to be the game-tying goal before it hit the left woodwork in 48'.

Hairane would remain active, taking a shot at the top left corner that would also be saved, before getting his own rebound to find George Koufos for the equalizer 2-2 in 53'.

Brooklyn would control the majority of possession in the second half, and as John Jay tried to take back possession, Koufos would strike again, stealing the ball in the Bloodhounds' defensive zone to kick a screamer over the goalie to make it 3-2, in what would be the game-winner in 60'.

The fans being behind the Bulldogs proved to be a key and point of emphasis, not only in the huddle during halftime, but the whole game, as they would celebrate an important victory in the process.

For the Bulldogs

  • George Koufos was the player of the match if there was one, scoring a hat trick of 3 goals on 4 shots, 3 of those which would turn into scores.
  • Yassin Hairane would take 4 shots, 1 on target, and 1 assist.
  • Bradlej Cupi would have 1 assist as well as 2 shots taken, 1 of them on goal.
  • Bruno Servisi's loan shot would be on target, and would add an assist to his statline.
