BC Women's Volleyball Two-Game Win Streak Snapped in Alvernia Trimatch

Bulldogs Lose With Identical 3-1 Scores to Scarlet Raiders and Wolves

READING, Pennsylvania ------ Coming into their fourth tri-match of the season, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team looked to continue their success on the road. Unfortunately, their short two-game streak would come to an end, as they would drop both contests to the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders [20-25, 25-19, 18-25, 18-25] and the Alvernia University Golden Wolves [25-23, 14-25, 12-25, 14-25].

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (12-11) remain with an overall winning record despite the loss, while both the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders (11-15) and Alvernia Golden Wolves (11-12) get one step closer to an even record.

How It Happened vs Rutgers-Newark

The Scarlet Raiders would jump off to an early 3-0 lead in the first set, but the Bulldogs would rally back with a 7-0 run of their own to take the lead, a lead they would keep for some time. However, with the score 10-8, the Scarlet Raiders would go on a 4-0 run to retake the lead. Despite the Bulldogs pulling in within one throughout the set, the Scarlet Raiders would eventually proceed to take it 25-20.

Rutgers-Newark would take an early 1-0 lead, and just when it looked as though the momentum would continue, Brooklyn would overcome two tied scores to take the lead 3-2. Rutgers-Newark would never regain the lead, a lead that Brooklyn would take to tie the game 1-1 with a 25-19 score in the second set.

The Bulldogs seemed to be building momentum, going up 11-4 in the third set. With the score now 12-5, the Scarlet Raiders would go on a huge 9-0 run to turn things around. Just as the Bulldogs would inch closer to 16-15, the Scarlet Raiders would pull away with another 5-0 run, eventually taking the third set 25-18.

The fourth set would continue the momentum, as Rutgers-Newark would go up 13-4, but Brooklyn would fight back to get back in the game with a 9-1 run to make it 14-13. Despite the valiant effort, Brooklyn could not quite take the lead or tie it, losing by the same score of 25-18 in the fourth set.
  • Amra Mulic would lead the way with 9 assists and 3 service aces, as well as attaining 10 digs.
  • Ruti Joshi would defend the side with 12 digs to go along with 2 assists.
  • Emma Steele would also have 3 aces to go with 4 digs and 1 kills.

How It Happened vs Alvernia

In a competitive first set, the Golden Wolves and Bulldogs would go through ten tied scores in the process. With the Golden Wolves holding a 23-21 lead, looking to close out the first set, the Bulldogs would rally back to go on a 4-0 run and steal set number one 25-23.

This time, it was Brooklyn that would hold a 6-5 lead, but Alvernia would retake the lead for good after a 13-2 run that would put them up by ten at 18-8. Despite Brooklyn's effort to come back, the scoring stretch proved too much as Alvernia would tie the game after winning the second set 25-14.

The Bulldogs looked to avenge themselves early on with a 7-0 start to the third set, but the Golden Wolves would not go away, tying the game at 9-9. After trading leads, the score would be tied at 11-11, but a 9-0 run would be enough for the Golden Wolves to pull away and eventually take it 25-12.

With both teams feeling the fourth set as necessary, the two of them would have five tied scores in the process. However a couple of 3-0 runs would help to build a substantial lead, ending the set on a 7-0 run to take the game with a 25-14 score.
Next up, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team continue on the road as they go back to conference play against the Hunter College Hawks on Thursday, October 31st at 6:00pm.
