Bullogs Advance to CUNYAC Semifinals, Rafat and Mulic Reach Career Milestones

Brooklyn, NY---On an eventful Tuesday evening at the West Quad Center, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Lehman College in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament.  In addition, senior outside hitter, Aleah Rafat, surpassed 1000 kills for her career in the first set, and junior setter, Amra Mulic, eclipsed 1000 assists in the third set.  Entering the tourney as the No. 3 seed, Brooklyn improves to 14-13 with the victory while the No. 6 Lightning completes their season with a 6-17 overall mark.  Next Up: BC now advances to the CUNYAC Tournament semifinals at No. 2 John Jay on Thursday, 11/14, at 7pm.  

How It Happened
  • Trailing 11-5 to start the match, the Bulldogs dug themselves out of the hole beginning with a five-score rally.  The teams would trade scores for the next few points before Brooklyn went on a seven-point rally to take complete control of the set.  Danielle Fuxman closed out the set, 25-17, with a kill assisted by Mulic.  
  • Brooklyn jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the second set that included aces served up by Sydney Gdanski and Ruti Joshi.  The Bulldogs would run away with the second set, 25-7, completed by back-to-back Mulic aces.  
  • The Bulldogs continued to roll, grabbing a 6-0 lead to start the third set.  They wouldn't look back as Gdanski closed out the match with a kill, 25-9.  
  • Brooklyn hit .474 as a team to Lehman's .062 on the evening. Brooklyn also served up 16 aces while only allowing three.  
For the Bulldogs 
  • Rafat finished with 8 kills and 13 digs.  
  • Gdanski filled up the stat sheet with 8 kills, 10 digs, and 4 aces.  
  • Fuxman put away a match-high 9 kills while hitting .563.  
  • Joshi came up with 14 digs while serving up 4 aces.  
  • Mulic ended up with 14 assists and 4 aces.
