Owings Mills, MD---In the first game of the Stevenson Tip-Off Classic, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team edged out Carlow University, 66-63, for the or first victory of the season. Brooklyn moves to 1-2 with the win while the Celtics drop to 0-3. Next Up: Brooklyn will take on tournament host, Stevenson, in the championship game on Saturday, 11/16, at 4pm.
How It Happened
- After Carlow opened the game with a three-point make, the Bulldogs with a 10-0 run that included a pair of three-point makes buried by Malik Dale. Brooklyn would hang on to the lead for the rest of the contest.
- The Bulldogs extended their lead to as many as 17 points in the first half.
- Carlow cut the Bulldogs' lead to 13 points to open the second before BC responded with a 4-0 spurt capped by a Brendan Armour made jumper.
- However, the Celtics wouldn't go away and following a late Celtics run, the Bulldogs would find themselves clinging to a 64-63 advantage. Dale would ice the game with a pair of free-throw makes with fifteen seconds to go in regulation.
- BC shot 42.3% to Carlow's 32.1% from the field for the contest. Brooklyn shot 50% from the field in the first half.
For the Bulldogs
- Dale led all scorers with 17 points while also grabbing four rebounds.
- Armour scored a season-high 13 points and flirted with a double-double, finishing with 9 rebounds.
- Stephon McGill also helped out on the boards, finishing with 9 rebounds while scoring 6 points and coming up with a team-high 2 steals.
