Bulldogs Fall to Stevenson in Tip-Off Classic Championship

Owings Mills, MD----Despite outscoring the host school in the second half, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team fell to Stevenson University, 63-49, in the championship game of the Mustang Tip-Off Classic on Saturday.  Coming away with a split on the weekend at the tournament, Brooklyn drops to 1-3 overall with the non-conference loss while Stevenson remains undefeated, improving to 3-0.  Next Up: BC returns home for a non-conference match-up with Mt. St. Vincent University on Thursday, 11/21, at 7pm.  Doors open at the West Quad Center at 6pm.

How It Happened
  • Leading the entire contest, the Mustangs opened the game with a three-point make.  A three-point make knocked down by BC senior guard, Malik Dale, cut Steven's lead to 9-7 with 14:26 left in the first half.  With Brooklyn trailing by two points with 12:12:52 left in the first half, the Mustangs made their move with a 10-2 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game, 21-11.  Stevenson led by as many as 16 points in the first half before going into the intermission with a 33-15 advantage.
  • Brooklyn's offense improved in the second half, shooting just under 38%, after shooting 27% in the first twenty minutes of the game.  However, the early damage had been done and the Mustangs seemed to have an answer for every Bulldog spark as they'd go on to lead by as many as 21points in the second half.
For the Bulldogs
  • Named to the All-Tournament Team, senior guard, Stephon McGill, led all scorers with 16 points.  He also grabbed 9 rebounds on the afternoon.
  • Also earning All-Tournament Team honors for his efforts, Dale chipped in 10 points including a pair of three-point makes.
  • Freshman guard, Joe Charles, added 7 points off of the bench on 3-4 shooting from the floor.
