Brooklyn, NY---Despite a last-second made three buried by freshman guard,
Joe Charles, to send the game into overtime, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team would eventually fall to the University of Mt. St. Vincent in the bonus period, 80-78, at home on Thursday. BC drops to 1-4 overall with the non-conference loss while the Dolphins improve to 2-3. Next Up: Brooklyn heads back on the road at Rivier on Saturday, 11/23, at 3pm.
How It Happened
- With Brooklyn leading 76-75 with 2:18 remaining in overtime, the Dolphins would take the lead for good with a 5-0 run capped with :16 seconds to go.
- Trailing 68-65, Charles splashed a three from the corner to send the contest into overtime.
- Evenly matched through the first ten minutes of the contest, Brooklyn went on an 8-0 run highlighted by three-point makes by Malik Dale and David McFadden to grab a 29-21 advantage with 5:24 to go in the first half. However, the Dolphins answered with an 8-0 run of their own to tie the game, 31-31, by halftime.
- The Bulldogs took a 52-45 lead with 11:41 left in regulation following Stephon McGill make in the paint. Mt. St. didn't go away and tied the game, 57-57, with 7:28 to go in regulation. The teams would exchange leads until Mt. St. Vincent grabbed a 68-65 advantage with ten seconds to go in regulation, just prior to Charles' heroics.
- UMSV outscored Brooklyn 30-22 in the paint. Brooklyn finished with a 45% to 36% advantage shooting from behind the arc.
- Four of the Dolphins' five starters reached double-figures in scoring.
For the Bulldogs
- Dale led all scorers with a season-high 27 points while shooting 7-14 from three-point range. He also came up with 4 steals on the night.
- McFadden chipped in 16 points, grabbed 8 boards, and dished out 8 assists.
- McGill added 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
- Charles finished with 9 points on 4-6 shooting from the floor and dished out 3 assists.
- Serge Thraysbule grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
