Bulldogs Battle Until the End, But Fall at Kean; Dolgin Nets Career-High 23 Points

Union, NJ---In a defensive slugfest, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team dropped a 64-54 decision in non-conference action at Kean University on Tuesday.  Brooklyn moves to 1-3 overall with the loss while Cougars improve to 2-1.  Next Up: Brooklyn returns home on Friday, 11/22, for a non-conference match-up against Rowan University at 6pm at the West Quad Center.

How It Happened
  • With both teams off to a slow start, Kean would take an 11-5 lead at the end of the first period thanks in part to a 5-0 run in the final 1:34.
  • Kean would extend their lead to 15-5 with a little over seven minutes to go in the first half before BC responded with an 8-0 run sparked by three drained by Sandra Diaz.  The Cougars would go into halftime with a 20-14 advantage.
  • The home team would keep a double-digit lead most of the way through the third period until Brooklyn cut the deficit to 38-31 following a layup finished by Ameea Daniel.  Kean kicked their lead back up to eight after a free throw make in the final three seconds of the third period.
  • Brooklyn didn't go away easily as Mary Dolgin converted on a pair of free-throws to cut the Cougars' lead to 41-35 with 8:17 left in regulation. However, Kean answered the call by going on an 8-0 run that included a pair of made threes.  Dolgin stopped the run with a three-point make of her own at the 6:53 mark, but the damage had been done, giving the Cougars the cushion needed to close out the contest.
  • The Cougars outscored Brooklyn 19-8 in points off of turnovers.  Brooklyn doubled up Kean in three-point makes, 6-3.
For the Bulldogs
  • Dolgin paced all scorers with a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double on the evening.
  • Junior guard, Dior Dorsey, also reached double-figures in scoring, finishing with 13 points.  She also pulled down 7 boards and came up with a pair of steals.
  • Junior guard, Anna Kitch, chipped in 7 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
