Brooklyn, NY----Leading by as many as 26 points in the second half, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team was able to hold off a late push and pull out a 62-56 non-conference victory over New Jersey City University on Monday at the West Quad Gymnasium. Their second straight win at home, the Bulldogs improve to 3-3 while the Gothic Knights drop to 2-3. Next Up: Brooklyn will look to keep their momentum going at home as they open conference play against John Jay on Friday in a rematch of the last three conference championships at 5pm.
How it Happened
- Leading 25-19 with 2:31 to go in the first half, the Bulldogs closed out the second period on a 10-0 run capped by five straight points scored by junior guard, Anna Kitch, including a three-point make that just beat the halftime buzzer. Brooklyn trailed 5-0 to start the contest, but got right back into it and take their first lead of the contest, 7-5, on a Mary Dolgin three-point make with 5:51 to go in the first period.
- The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 10-0 run capped by a made jumper buried by junior guard, Dior Dorsey, to take a comfortable 45-19 advantage with 5:23 left in the third period. However, the Gothic Knights didn't go away easily as they cut the Bulldogs' lead down to 13 heading into the fourth period.
- Brooklyn responded to start the fourth period four unanswered points beginning with a lay-in finished by Aleah Rafat. BC kicked their lead back up to as many as 19 points (60-41) with 4:35 left in regulation before the Gothic Knights closed out the contest on a 15-2 run.
- BC shot just under 39% from the field for the game to NJCU's 29%. Both teams turned the ball over 34 times with NJCU outscoring Brooklyn 28-25 off of turnovers.
For the Bulldogs
- Dolgin led the way offensively with 18 points while shooting 4-8 from behond the arc.
- Kitch finished with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. She also came up with 4 steals.
- Dorsey chipped in 13 points off of the bench. She also blocked a pair of shots and came up with 2 steals.
