BC Routs CCNY in Regular Season Finale on Senior Night

BROOKLYN, New York ---- The Brooklyn College women's basketball team looked to close the regular season in style to build momentum for the upcoming CUNYAC Championship Tournament against CCNY on Friday and did just that. From beginning to end, the Bulldogs were able to take and secure a lead that they would hold throughout the entire game, ultimately winning 92-23. The Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 16-8 overall and a 12-2 conference record, while the Beavers conclude with a 3-18 overall and 2-12 conference record. Six seniors were honored at the beginning of the game on Senior Night, including Ericka James, Destiny Drummond, Ayomide Adeoye, Suliat Afolabi, Alina Estrella, and Sarah James.

The Bulldogs will await the winner of the first-round matchup between #4 Hunter and #5 Lehman on Saturday before playing at home on Tuesday, February 20 at a time to be determined. 

How It Happened:

  • With all the seniors being a part of the starting lineup, the Bulldogs would take control of the game right away, going on a quick 11-0 run, extending that to 13 once the first substitution was made with 4:38 to go, finishing the first quarter up 26-4. 

  • The Beavers struggled and would end up falling behind by 45 points, the largest lead up to that point, by a score of 58-13 at the half. 

  • The Bulldogs would start off on yet another 8-0 run to start the third quarter before City College finally scored a free throw to break the run with 6:05 to go. The third quarter would end with a 58-point differential with a score of 74-16, with Brooklyn only allowing three points in the quarter, all on free throws. 

  • Brooklyn would continue to pour it on, taking their largest lead with 5:28 to go in the game by a score of 88-18, a seventy-point difference. The game with a 69-point lead, by a score of 92-33. 

For the Bulldogs:

  • Ericka James led the way in scoring with 17n points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal on 6-of-9 shooting overall, including 5-for-8 from three-point range.
  • Alina Estrella was the second-leading scorer with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.
  • Ayomide Adeoye had a near double-double with 9 points, 1 assist and 12 rebounds, which led all Bulldogs.
  • Suliat Afolabi led with 7 asists, while Mary Dolgin led the way in steals with 4.
  • Anna Kitch recorded a double-double off the bench with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal.
  • Dior Dorsey also contributed off the bench with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assits, and 2 steals. 
  • The Bulldogs would have four scorers in double figures and would lead in almost every category except turnovers, having 9 fewer than the Beavers.
