Time Runs Out on Bulldogs' Comeback at NJCU

Jersey City, NJ----Despite outscoring New Jersey City 21-6 in the fourth quarter, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start on the road against the Gothic Knights on Monday.  Brooklyn moves to 13-8 overall with the non-conference loss while NJCU improves to 14-7 with their fifth straight victory.

  • Brooklyn returns to the West Quad Center for the first time in two weeks as the Bulldogs host York College on Wednesday, 2/7, at 5pm in conference play. 
How It Happened
  • The home team jumped out to 6-0 start to the contest before leading by as many as 18 points in the second quarter and taking a 32-16 halftime lead. 
  • Trailing by 21 points heading into the fourth quarter, BC opened the final ten minutes of regulation with a 5-0 run capped by a made three drained by junior guard, Alina Estrella
  • Brooklyn continue to chip away at NJCU's lead, cutting the advantage down to 58-47 following a make in the paint scored by junior forward, Mary Dolgin
  • A three-point make buried by Anna Kitch put the Bulldogs in striking distance, 60-52, with a tick over two minutes remaining.  The Gothic Knights kicked their lead up to double-digits on the ensuing possession before BC responded with four unanswered points.  However, time would eventually run out on the Bulldogs' comeback. 
  • NJCU shot close to 77% (10-13) from the field in the third quarter. 
  • Brooklyn's bench outscored the Gothic Knights' 22-18.  The Bulldogs also outscored NJCU 14-9 in second chance points. 
For the Bulldogs
  • Senior forward, Sarah James, scored a game-high 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and came up with three steals. 
  • Ericka James added eight points and grabbed ten boards. 
  • Destiny Drummond provided a spark off of the bench finishing with seven points.
