Box Score 2 Old Westbury, NY----After being rained out last week, the Brooklyn College softball team was back on the field for the first time since winning both games of their season opener on March 1. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs would not improve to a 4-0 start to the season as BC dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader at Old Westbury on Tuesday. Brooklyn moves to 2-2 overall with the losses while Old Westbury improved to 2-0 in their Season Opener. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday, March 20, as they host Purchase in a non-conference double bill beginning at 4pm at Brooklyn College Field.
Game 1: Brooklyn-2, Old Westbury-12 (5 Innings)
Playing on their home field for the first time since 2019, the Panthers jumped out to an 11-0 lead by the end of the first inning. BC junior pitcher,
Danielle Guzzardi and the Brooklyn defense would buckle down to only allow a run the remainder of the game. However, the Bulldogs weren't able to get their bats going until the top of the third inning as
Grismarly Brito Mejia and
Paige Palacios both slapped singles, but would wind up stranded. Senior infielder,
Dasha Goodman, knocked an RBI double to put the Bulldogs on the board in the fourth inning.
Vida Rodriguez walked to score
Emilyah Jefferson for the second run of the game for BC.
Guzzardi pitched all five innings for Brooklyn, charged with eight runs for the game for her first loss of the season.
Game 2: Brooklyn-3, Old Westbury- 13 (5 Innings)
The home team would get out in front early once again, jumping out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the first inning. Brooklyn got on the board in the top of the second inning on a Brito Mejia RBI pop-up to score Rodriguez who reached base on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. Trailing 8-1, Palacios would lead off the top of the third with a walk and eventually scored on a fielder's choice RBI slapped by sophomore infielder,
Zoey Van Vleet. With the bases loaded with two outs, freshman utility, Caitlyn Trousdale, walked to score Van Vleet for the Bulldogs' second run of the inning and last for the game.
Brooklyn was committed eight errors for the game, as Guzzardi moved to 2-2 while hurling another five innings and was charged with seven runs. Rodriguez ended up going 2-3 along with scoring the first run of the game for BC.
