BC Halted Against St. Joe's Bears in Both Games

BROOKLYN, New York ----- Coming into Wednesday evening's doubleheader, the Brooklyn College softball team looked to get back on track against their cross-borough opponent, the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears. Unfortunately, both games did not go the Bulldogs way. In a series that featured a couple of throwing errors and miscommunications, they would end up dropping the first game by a score of 12-1 in just six innings, and the second game 13-3. With that, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs would drop to 3-7 overall, while the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Bears would improve to 6-4 overall.

Game 1

Both sides were unable to get anything going in the first inning of the first game of the doubleheader, but with two errors in the second and third inning, it was the Bears that would take an early 2-0 lead.

Second baseman Isabelle Frank went a perfect 2-for-2, including a triple that would set up right fielder Nadeen Khalil to score in the in the fourth inning and make it 2-1. Sadly, this would end up being the Bulldogs' only run of the game, ironically through an error as well.

While the fifth inning was where three more runs would be added on thanks to an RBI-double followed by an RBI-single, it was the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, that sealed the deal with seven consecutive runs being scored to end it 12-1.

Both shortstop Paige Palacios and catcher Vida Rodriguez would go an identical 1-for-3 in the game, being the only other players to get a hit.

Game 2

The visiting Bears would once again jump to a quick lead in the top of the first inning featuring two RBI-singles and an error to make it 3-0.

Playing second base for the night game, Jelisa Palenque would come alive batting second in the lineup. Batting 3-for-4 for the game, she was able to hit one RBI in the bottom of the first inning to bring the score to 3-1.

Still in the bottom of the first, a unique play would happen, as Vida Rodriguez would strike out swinging, yet she was able to get on base thanks to a passed ball. This would not only allow the runners to advance, but more importantly, it bought Palenque home to cut the game to 3-2.

Bears shortstop Autumn Poppett, who pitched the first game, would end up hitting an RBI-triple to begin another run for the visitors, eventually scoring due to a wild pitch. This helped the Bears go on a scoring stretch of six runs that would be taken into the top of the fifth inning.

Centerfielder Dasha Goodman would hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth to bring Palenque home once again for her second run of the game. She would end the night as the only other player to get a hit, going 2-for-4 in the process.

The seventh inning would just end up being salt on the wound, featuring two RBI-triples and one RBI-single to finally end the longer of the two games 13-3.
