BC Drops Two Gutsy Games To Hunter

BROOKLYN, New York ----- Coming into Friday night's conference doubleheader, the Brooklyn College softball team looked forward to start conference play on the right foot against the Hunter College Hawks. However, despite two very close games between the two sides, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs would drop both by scores of 4-2 in the first game and 8-7 in the second, with both going the full seven innings.

The Hawks (2-7) would grab their first two wins of the season and start off 2-0 in the conference while the Bulldogs (3-9) start off 0-2 in the conference continuing to ride a seven-game skid.

Game 1

With a scoreless first inning, both sides would finally breakthrough in the second inning, which would end up being one of two innings with any scoring, as a sacrifice fly bought in the first run for Hunter to make it 1-0.

Brooklyn would strike back in the bottom of the second, as left-fielder Jelisa Palenque would attain her only hit of the game, but the most important one for the Bulldogs, hitting an RBI-double to bring Nadeen Khalil and Caitlyn Trousdale home and take the lead at 2-1. Palenque would finish hitting 1-for-4 to go along with 2 RBI.

Hunter would open up the top of the third inning with a stolen base, allowing the Hawks to setup what would ultimately be the winning runs to make the score 4-2.

Game 2

This time, it was Brooklyn that struck early as catcher Vida Rodriguez would hit an RBI-single that would bring in the first run of the game to make it 1-0.

With the runner having advanced to third, it was second baseman Isabelle Frank that would hit a single of her own to bring Rodriguez home and the runner on third base to make it 3-0.

Despite having a comfortable lead, the Hawks managed to come back into the game with three runs of their own spanning within the top of the second and third innings to make it 3-3.

At the bottom of the third inning, Isabelle Frank would once again hit an RBI-single to retake the lead 4-3. She would finish the night batting a remarkable 3-for-4 and 3 RBI.

The score would once again be tied in the top of the fifth inning by the Hawks, but it was Vida Rodriguez that would restore the lead with another RBI-single, one that would bring another two runs to make it 6-4. She would finish the night with 3 RBI, 1 run, all while batting a solid 2-for-4.

Once the sixth inning came rolling around, the Hawks would storm back and not only tie it, but take the lead 7-6. However, the Bulldogs would retie the game 7-7 after an error on the Hawks side allowed the runners to advance.

In heartbreaking fashion, the Hawks would hit an RBI-single that would be the winner 8-7.
