BC Shuts Out Yeshiva Twice Behind Guzzardi's Perfect Game and No-Hitter

BROOKLYN, New York ---- Coming into Tuesday night's non-conference doubleheader, the Brooklyn College softball team looked to bounce back against the Yeshiva University Maccabees on Fan Appreciation Day. They did more than bounce back as Danielle Guzzardi would take care of business in the quickest pair of games this season, pitching two back-to-back outstanding performances, a perfect game by a score of 12-0 and a no-hitter by a score of 11-0.

The t-shirts were not the only thing free tonight, as the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (5-9) broke free of a seven-game skid and had arguably two historical games. Meanwhile, the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0-20) continue to struggle heavily with their hitting drought.

Game 1

Right off the bat, no pun intended, Brooklyn would have the first eight batters make a plate appearance in the bottom of the first inning. With runners on the corners, first baseman Zoey Van Vleet would hit a two-run RBI-triple to go up 2-0.

Second baseman Isabelle Frank would end the night hitting 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI, which would put Brooklyn up 3-0.

Left fielder Cailyn Trousdale would bring her home to make it 4-0 very early on with another RBI-single of her own, as she would also go 2-for-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

After a five-run stretch in the bottom of the first inning, Brooklyn would pour on another five-run stretch in the bottom of the third inning, including an RBI-single from third baseman Paige Palacios, who ended the night with an identical statline to Isabelle Frank.

As the bottom of the fourth came to a close, the Bulldogs would tack on another two runs to complete the perfect game pitched by Danielle Guzzardi and win it 2-0. Guzzardi would end the night with 9 strikeouts as a pitcher and 1 run as a batter.

Game 2

Just when you thought Brooklyn's pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi, could not have another phenomenal performance, she would get her first hit of the season off an RBI-double to expand the lead to 3-0. Unfortunately, she would be one walk away from another perfect game, but fortunately, she still managed to pitch a no-hitter.

With an RBI-single putting the Bulldogs up 5-0 to end the bottom of the first inning, Zoey Van Vleet would continue that momentum into the bottom of the second inning with an RBI-triple. She would finish the night 3-for-3, 1 run and 2 RBI. An error on a flyball into left field would bring her home to make it 7-0.

From there, it was the Jelisa Palenque show, as she would hit an inside the ballpark home run to tack on two more runs in the third inning. When the fourth inning came around, she would hit a two-run RBI-double to finish the game 11-0. The shortstop would go 3-for-3 as well with 4 RBI and 2 runs.
