BC Softball Drops a Pair in Conference Play to John Jay

Union, NJ----Taking on the defending CUNYAC champions, the Brooklyn College softball team fell in both games of a conference doubleheader on the road to John Jay at Kean University on Saturday.  The visitors dropped Game 1, 4-0, before the Bloodhounds took Game 2, 9-1, in five innings.  BC moves to 5-11 overall and 0-4 in CUNYAC with the losses while John Jay improves to 17-5 and 4-0 respectively.  Next Up: The Bulldogs take the trip to Clarks Summit University for a makeup non-conference double bill on Monday at 3pm.

In Game 1, the Bloodhounds grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  BC junior pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi would settle in, only allowing one run for the remainder of the game.  However, John Jay starter, Jailene Santiago, was on her game from the opening pitcher, yielding just three BC hits in all seven innings of work.

Santiago was also responsible for all three of the Bloodhounds' runs in the first inning, crushing a three-run homer, and went 3-3 for the game.  BC's Dasha Goodman cracked a double for one of the Bulldogs' hits.  Freshman, Paige Palacios, stole a pair of bases for the game and slapped a single for the Bulldogs.

Brooklyn would get on the board first in Game 2 in the top of the opening inning.  With two outs after Palacios led off with a walk, Goodman hit an RBI single to score the freshman.  The Bulldogs' lead wouldn't last long as the Bloodhounds responded in the bottom of the first, scoring three unearned runs on errant Brooklyn throws.  John Jay starter, Lindsay Ogden, would deal for the next four innings, yielding just one more Brooklyn hit.  She would improve to 7-1 on the season with the win.

John Jay tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fourth to crack the game wide open.  The Bloodhounds closed out the game in the fifth inning, scoring on a wild pitch.

BC freshman infielder, Vida Rodriguez, had the Bulldogs' other hit for the game in the top of the fifth inning.
