Game Recap: Softball |

BC Conquered by Clarks Summit

Bulldogs' bats continue to go down swinging on the road.

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pennsylvania ------ Coming into Monday's non-conference doubleheader, the Brooklyn College softball team would take on an unfamiliar opponent in the Clark Summit University Defenders. In their first every matchup, the Bulldogs would avoid being shutout, losing 5-1, while the second game was a complete shutout after five innings 9-0.

The Clarks Summit University Defenders (10-12) successfully lived up to their names by defending their home-field, while the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (5-13) struggled on the road once again, still seeking their first win away from home.

Game 1

The Defenders became the offenders and would score in the first inning off an RBI-single to right field from their catcher Sara Castillo to make it 1-0. She would proceed to hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning that would once again go to right field, allowing two more runs to score, making it 3-0.

In the fifth inning, their pitcher, Madison Atkins, would take over by hitting a RBI-triple to extend the lead and then proceed to score thanks to a wild pitch, making it a 5-0 ball game.

Up to this point, all the Bulldogs could do was groundout, pop out, lineout, and strikeout swinging. However, the Bulldogs would ruin what was a perfect game by the Defenders' Atkins as third baseman Paige Palacios would lead-off with a double to left field. She would end up hitting 1-for-3 with 1 run to her name.

With Palacios in scoring position, catcher Isabelle Frank would hit an RBI-single to avoid being shutout to end the score at 5-1.The catcher would hit 1-for-3 with 1 RBI single.

Game 2

Defenders shortstop Haley Brag would have her name all over this game starting in the first inning. The Bulldogs would struggle defensively, allowing Brag to reach base on an error and continue to do so as Brag would then score off a passed ball making it 2-0.

Clarks Summit would tack on another four runs in the second inning, as three players would hit three doubles to extend the lead to 6-0.

As the Bulldogs fielding struggled, so did the batting, but in the top of the fourth, they were finally able to breakthrough as designated player Isabelle Frank would single to center field. It would end her night going 1-for-2.

The Defenders added on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, increasing the deficit to 9-0, a deficit the Bulldogs would never rally back from. Brooklyn's shortstop Jelisa Palenque would be the only other hit of the night in the fifth inning, going 1-for-3 as well. The game would end on a double play, arguably one of the most demoralizing plays you never want to end on.
