Brooklyn Completes Season Sweep of York

Bulldogs shutout Cardinals twice, Guzzardi pitches second perfect game of the season.

BROOKLYN, New York -----The Brooklyn College softball team completed a four-game sweep of York College on Tuesday at Brooklyn College Field, taking a pair of non-conference scheduled games from the Cardinals in convincing fashion.  Brooklyn improves to 9-13 overall with the victories while York moves to 4-14.  

Game 1

Brooklyn bolted out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning thanks in part to a three-run inside-the-park homerun crushed by senior outfielder, Dasha Goodman

Brooklyn extended their lead to 6-0 on heads-up base running by Zoey an Vleet who scored on a York error. 

The Bulldogs struck again in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on, Goodman would proceed to take full advantage of the situation by hitting an RBI-triple to make it 7-0. She would would go 2-for-3 including the triple and a homer while driving in four RBI for the game.  

BC pinch runner, Sandra Diaz, would end the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to speedy base running to give Brooklyn an 8-0 lead. 

Brooklyn junior pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi, tossed her second perfect game of the season finishing with nine strikeouts in all five innings in the circle. 

Game 2

Brooklyn jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the bottom of the second inning, capped off by a Nadeen Khalil sacrifice bunt that scored Vida Rodriguez.  

The top of the third inning would feature York's only hit off of Guzzardi on the day.  Brooklyn pushed their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning highlighted by a Palenque single that scored Goodman. 

Brooklyn's steady offense continued in the fourth inning. Zoey Van Vleet who would hit an RBI-single to bring home a runner, that had previously advanced on a wild pitch, making it 9-0. She would end the game going 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. With the bases loaded, Rodriguez would hit another RBI-single that would advance the runners to stay in scoring position and make it 10-0. She would go 2-for-2 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.  Grismarly Brito Mejia would then would hit a RBI-single to make it 11-0 and keep runners in scoring position. The Bulldogs were able to tack on two more runs by the end of the inning.  

Guzzardi pitched another gem, finishing with 7 strikeouts in all five innings of work, fielding the one infielder hit, and walking one.  She improved to 9-13 on the season by day's end.
