Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Brooklyn Wins Second Straight Match at Home Over Purchase, 3-1

BROOKLYN, NY----Picking up their second straight win to close out the week on a high note, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team defeated Purchase College, 3-1 (25-10, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17) in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the West Quad Center on Thursday night.  BC improves to 3-4 overall with the non-conference win while the Panthers drop to 1-2.  Next Up: Brooklyn opens conference play at Medgar Evers on Tuesday, 9/17, at 6pm.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs would jump out to an early 3-0 lead through a pair of service aces from Amra Mulic, but the Panthers would go on a rally of their own to take a 5-3 lead in the first set.

Purchase did not hold the lead for long though, as Brooklyn would proceed to go on a season-long 14-0 run thanks to a series of attack errors and kills by three different players, taking a calm 17-5 lead that would allow them to take the first set 25-10.

The Panthers would threaten to come back, inching as close as trailing 13-12. The second set would also feature a long period where the ball just never touched the ground, bouncing through a sequence of three touches on each side of the net. Eventually, the ball would be batted down by Dinora Gomez, her only kill but an important one nevertheless, sparking a series of 3-0 runs that would help the Bulldogs gain some distance and take the second set 25-20.

In arguably the most competitive set, Brooklyn was looking to close the game with a 20-19 lead, but Purchase would respond with a 4-0 run to put them up 23-20.

After an attack error, the ball would once again find itself going from one side of the net to the other, only this time through a series of single touch attacks, before the ball would finally hit the ground on the Purchase side of the court to make it 23-22. Unfortunately, the game would be further delayed as Purchase would close the third set 25-22, leading to a fourth set.

The fourth set would start of similarly with a 3-0 run by the Bulldogs, a lead that they would not relinquish at all, taking it by a defining 25-17.

For the Bulldogs

Offensively, six different Bulldogs had two or more service aces for the night, totaling  and eight had at least one kill.

Defensively, four different Bulldogs would participate in a block attempt and almost the whole team recorded at least one dig or reception, two of them in double digits.

Aleah Rafat had half of the Bulldogs' kills with 15 kills, to go along with 2 aces, 3 block assists, 16 dig, and 3 receptions.

Amra Mulic once again led in assists with 16 assists, while also contributing 3 service aces, and 7 digs.

Ayatallah Elkotby was a wall with 7 total blocks, 3 of those by herself, gaining 3 kills in the process as well.

Danielle Fuxman had more to celebrate as she got credited for 3 block assists, 3 digs, 1 reception, and 2 kills.
