BC Women's Volleyball Breeze Past Medgar Evers, Extend Win Streak To Three

Bulldogs Keep Cougars To Single Digits

BROOKLYN, New York ----- Coming into their first conference match of the year, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team looked to extend their two-game win streak that they are currently on. At the same time, they looked to continue their historic streak against their cross-borough rivals, the Medgar Evers College Cougars.

They were able to do just that, sweeping the Cougars in three short sets [25-8, 25-5, 25-3] and keeping them to single digits in each set. The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (4-4, 1-0 CUNYAC) have evened their record, taking their first conference win of the season. The Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-6, 0-1 CUNYAC) have yet to win a game this season and against the Bulldogs, now dropping the last eighteen matches to them, twenty overall.

The Bulldogs began their rampage early on in the first set, more specifically Amra Mulic, who would start iff with a kill and proceed to serve back-to-back aces targeting the same area of the court to go up 3-0.

However, their best run in the first set would not happen until later on. With Brooklyn holding on to a 10-4 lead, an attack error by the Medgar Evers bought Rhianna Marrero to serve. She would proceed to help place the ball in all the right areas, hitting 3 aces in that span while also distributing the ball properly to take a 16-5 advantage. Eventually, they would take the first set 25-8.

The second set would start off with the longest run of the game to open up. Amra Mulic would once again get the ball rolling, or in this case serving, with a service ace, the first of 6 aces in this span to go along with 5 assists, all of which helped the Bulldogs go up 13-0. Mulic would end the night with 2 kills, 19 assists, and 9 aces.

Medgar Evers managed to get on the board, and with the score 16-3, it was Emma Steele that would step up to serve, helping Brooklyn go on a 7-0 run, with three of those points coming from service aces, to take a 23-3 advantage that would lead to a 25-5 taking of the second set. Steele would end with 12 digs and 6 aces for the night.

The third set started off more competitively, that is until the Bulldogs would go on an extensive 10-0 run with Emma Steele serving, leading to Rafat, Gdanski, and even Mulic with kills, to take a 14-2 lead.

With the game at 14-3 now, after an attack error broke the streak, Aleah Rafat would help spark another run, bringing Gdanski to serve, where she would get 7 service aces in the span. Gdanski would end with 2 kills, 3 assists, and 10 aces, while Rafat would end with 10 kills, 1 reception, 2 assists, 1 ace, and 8 digs.

The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team look to extend their three-game win streak as they travel to face the St. Joseph's Long Island Eagles on Thursday, September 19 at 7pm.
