Bulldogs Stage Second Half Comeback to Tie Old Westbury, 2-2

BC Women's Soccer Corners Panthers For Second Draw This Season

BROOKLYN, New York ---- Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Brooklyn College women's soccer team staged a dramatic comeback in the match's final 45 minutes to play to a 2-2 draw with Old Westbury at BC Field on Monday.  Brooklyn moves to 2-5-2 with the tie while the Panthers go to 4-5-2.  Next Up: BC heads north to Massachusetts on Thursday for a non-conference match against Elms College at 4pm.

How It Happened

A dangerous through pass from the left side found the Panthers midfielder being fouled inside the box leading to a penalty. After making a pair of saves to start the first part of the first half, April Hartje was unable to make one more as the ball from the Panthers' Jocelyn Forseth would sail into the unreachable part to her right in the bottom corner in 25'.

The College at Old Westbury would continue to test Hartje under the goalpost, forcing her to make two more saves, both on the bottom left. Eventually, Forseth would break through once again, as she would receive a well-placed through pass that would allow her to maneuver a defender before a left-footed strike would put Old Westbury up 2-0 in 39'.

While the momentum seemed to favor the Panthers in the second half, somehow the crowd remained in it, cheering them on throughout more than ever, arguably the most energetic crowd of the season. With a sea of emotions, the Bulldogs would finally catch a break off a free kick. Ana Romero would kick a perfect ball over the wall of defenders and into the head of Chelsea Gonzalez to cut the lead to 2-1 in 60'.

With the momentum in Brooklyn's favor, they would continue to put the pressure on Old Westbury.Gonzalez would be a factor once again, only this time, she would kick an overhead cross that would be controlled perfectly by Gianna DiPronio for the tying goal at 72'.

For the Bulldogs

  • Chelsea Gonzalez would get 2 shots, both on target, attaining 1 goal and 1 assist.
  • April Hartje would save 6 shots to seal a solid outing for Brooklyn after allowing only two goals, both in the first half.
  • Gianna DiPronio would take advantage of her singular shot, which was on target, to score 1 goal.
  • Ana Romero would take full advantage of the free kick she took, getting 1 assist in the process.
