Winchester, VA----Scheduled for three matches in the Shenandoah University Invitational, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team fell in the first two matches of the trip on Friday, dropping a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-20) decision to the host before succumbing to Hood College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-23), in their second match of the afternoon. Brooklyn drops to 1-3 overall with the non-conference losses. Next Up: BC closes out their trip against McDaniel College on Day Two of the Invitational on Saturday at 10:30 am.
How it Happened (vs. Shenandoah)
- Brooklyn scored the first two points of the match before the Hornets responded with a four-score rally. The host controlled the first set from that point on. SU carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 9-1 lead. A back-and-forth third most of the way through, BC pulled within 21-20 down the stretch. However, SU closed out the match with four unanswered scores.
- The Hornets served up 16 aces to the Bulldogs' three.
For the Bulldogs (vs. Shenandoah)
- Senior outside hitter, Aleah Rafat, led the way with six kills and 12 digs.
- Junior middle, Ayatallah Elkotby, added five kills to go along with a pair of blocks.
How It Happened (vs. Hood)
- Despite the Bulldogs taking an early 6-3 lead in the opening set following a pair of Ruti Joshi service aces, the Blazers responded late with clusters of short runs to take a 1-0 lead in the match. With the second set tied, 8-8, Hood rallied for seven straight scores that the Bulldogs werten't able to recover from. Hood would take a 4-0 advantage to start the third set before BC battled back. With the score tied, 23-23, Hood avoided the fourth set with back-to-back kills to end the match.
- Hood finished with a 20-5 advantage in service aces.
For the Bulldogs (vs. Hood)
- Rafat finished with a match-high 9 kills and 10 digs.
- Freshman outside hitter, Danielle Fuxman, chipped in four kills.
- Joshi came up with 9 digs to go along with the two service aces.
