Bulldogs Pick Up Key CUNYAC Victory Over CCNY, 66-60, Extending Win-Streak to Five

BROOKLYN, New York----In an exciting conference battle on Friday, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team pulled out a key victory at home over CCNY, 66-60.  Brooklyn improves to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in CUNYAC with their fifth straight victory while the Beavers drop to 7-6 and 3-4 respectively.  It was the Bulldogs first win over CCNY since the 2021-22 Season.  Next Up: Brooklyn looks to keep their streak alive at Baruch on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.

How It Happened

Brooklyn and City College would go toe-to-toe for the first part of the first half. With the scored tied at 15-15, Brooklyn would proceed to go on a 15-4 run to create some distance with 6:17 to go in the first half.

However, the Beavers would not go away without a fight, starting a 10-1 run to close the gap slightly with 2:59 to go. Eventually, the Bulldogs would hold on for a 34-29 lead at the half.

After a series of runs in the second half, City College would bring it within three at 57-54 with 2:34 to go. Both teams would struggle to create any sort of distance until Serge Thrasybule would get a go-ahead layup in the paint off an alley-oop pass from Stephon McGill to put Brooklyn up 61-56.

Both teams would also struggle to get a stop, until the Bulldogs were able to stop a layup inside the paint with 0:52 remaining, an important stop that allowed Brooklyn to finsh it at the free throw line and take it 64-66.

For the Bulldogs

  • Joe Charles was the leading scorer with 18 points to go with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals on 6-of-12 shooting overall and 2-for-5 from three-point range.
  • Malik Dale was the only other scorer in double figures with 14 points, while also tied as the leader in steals with 3 to go along with 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
  • David McFadden would shoot an efficient 4-for-6 while scoring near double digits with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
  • Gabriel Barker would lead in two categories with 8 rebounds and 1 block, while Serge Thrasybule would lead in passing with 4 assists.
