BC Men's Basketball Takes Down William Paterson To Start the New Year

Bulldogs End Nine-Year drought Against Pioneers

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into the New Year, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team would come face-to-face with an opponent that they have had some trouble with over the years in the William Paterson University Pioneers. The Bulldogs had last beaten them on November 21, 2015 by a score of 80-66, which was over nine years ago for the historians wondering. With the odds against them, Brooklyn would overcome their drought, end their two-game losing streak and take down the Pioneers at home in a rout of 92-61.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (4-7) get an important victory to start the year that hopes to pioneer a path for the rest of the season, while the William Paterson Pioneers (5-7) leave back to New Jersey in shock.

How I Happened

With the score tied 4-4, Brooklyn would proceed to outscore William Paterson 16-2 to go up 20-6 with 12:52 remaining in the first half. The two sides would trade baskets before finally going into the half with Brooklyn up 46-28.

Despite the efforts of the Pioneers, they would only get as close as being down by 22 with 3:38 to go. However, the Bulldogs would pull away even more with a 9-0 run that would give them the largest lead of the night at 86-55 with 1:59 to go in the game.

Brooklyn would cap off the game with a 4-0 run despite William Paterson attempting to cut down into the lead, taking a convincing 92-61 victory.

For the Bulldogs

  • Malik Dale would lead the attack for Brooklyn as the leading scorer with 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal while shooting an efficient 5-for-9 from deep and 8-for-14 overall.
  • Serge Thrasybule would put up a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, including 3 offensive, to go with 7 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, also shooting 5-for-9 from the field.
  • Jaden Casanova would play with a different jersey number than accustomed, putting up 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block, shooting 6-for-12 in general.
  • Joe Charles took advantage of his start, putting up 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal.
