Bulldogs Roll Over Baruch, Improving to 2-0 in Conference Play

Brooklyn, NY----With six players reaching double-figures in scoring on the evening, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team cruised to an 85-54 conference win at home over Baruch College on Wednesday.  Brooklyn improves to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC with the victory while the Bearcats drop to 3-9 and 0-2 respectively. Next Up: The Bulldogs look to keep their winning ways going in conference play at Lehman College on Friday.  Tip-off is set for 5pm in the Bronx.  

How it Happened
  • Brooklyn set the tone from the opening tip-off, jumping out to 9-0 lead capped by a three-point play completed by Brianna Gutierrez.  The Bulldogs extended their lead to 12-1 following a three-point make buried by Mary Dolgin.  Baruch would eventually respond and after an 8-0, the Bearcats cut the Bulldogs' lead to 17-14 with 3:41 left in the first quarter.  However, the home team responded with an 8-0 run of their own highlighted by a Danae McMullen three-point make to take a 25-14 lead before heading into the second quarter with a 25-16 advantage.  
  • The Bearcats cut the Brooklyn lead to as few as six points in the second quarter before Brooklyn answered with a 6-0 flurry capped by an Anna Kitch three-point make with 5:10 to go in the first half. Brooklyn would head into halftime with a 45-34 advantage.  
  • Brooklyn took full control of the contest in the fourth quarter, outscoring Baruch 24-9 in the final 10 minutes of play.  
  • The Bulldogs shot 45.1% from the field as a team on the evening to the Bearcats' 25.4%.  Brooklyn dominated the paint, outscoring Baruch 42-10 near the basket.  
  • Baruch' Mia Castillo led all scorers with 22 points.  
For the Bulldogs
  • Dolgin paced Brooklyn with a team-high 15 points.  She also grabbed 7 rebounds.  
  • McMullen added 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 19 minutes off of the bench.  
  • Aleah Rafat was also big off of the bench for Brooklyn, chipping in 11 points and grabbing 7 rebounds.  
  • Kitch notched her third straight double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a season-high 15 boards.  
  • Gutierrez and Dior Dorsey scored 10 points each.
