Bulldogs Continue to Trend Upwards After Beating York

JAMAICA, New York ------- Coming into the second to last game of the regular season, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team would find themselves away from home to play a much improved York College Cardinals. Like most conference games, this was crucial for both sides, as York College looked to gain a winning conference record, while the Bulldogs wanted to secure a direct pass to the semifinals through a bye. With the task ahead not so easy, the Bulldogs would still pull it off to take a 3-1 victory, keeping their place at the top of the standings.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (10-4-1, 5-0-1 CUNYAC) keep their place at the top of the conference standings, while the York College Cardinals (3-6-3, 2-3-1 CUNYAC) look to continue to push through and secure a playoff spot.

Brooklyn would strike first midway through the first half, as Emir Imamberdiev would fine the back of the net at 24' for the 1-0 lead.

Wilson Munoz would finally be tested towards the ends of the first half with a shot down the bottom center of the goal at 40', but he would record the easy save to keep it 1-0 into halftime.

York knew that they needed a quick response and would do just that, putting together an attack to finally score and tie the game early in the first half at 1-1 at 49'.

The lead would be short-lived, as Nikala Metreveli would push the attack up to Imamberdiev to find the Bulldogs' top scorer in Andrew Gavrilov to retake the lead 2-1 at 52'. Gavrilov would finish with 1 goal on 6 shots, 4 on goal, while Metreveli would have one ssist on 2 shots, one on target.

Wanting to tie it back up, the cardinals would test Munoz again, but he would just about get the save to send the ball to a corner kick, just getting it off the top at 62'.

Minutes later, Coach bell would turning to his bench would pay off as Imamberdiev would once again be involved to unselfishly pass the ball to Ben Straus, who would put it away at 71' to take a more decisive 3-1 lead. Straus would have 1 goal on 2 shots, one on target.

Wilson Munoz would record his third save, stopping the ball from going in through the top, before his teammates would help block a shot seconds later off the rebound at 84'.

Emir Imamberdiev would end the day with 2 assists, one goal on 4 shots, 2 on target, as the Bulldogs inched closer to claiming the top seed in the conference.
