Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Late Brooklyn Push Falls Short at John Jay

New York, NY----Despite a stronger showing in the third and fourth sets, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team wasn't able to overcome a slow start, falling at John Jay, 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21), in conference play on Thursday.  BC moves to 9-11 overall (3-2 CUNYAC) with the conference loss while the reigning CUNYAC champs improved to 15-3 (5-0 CUNYAC).  Next Up: Brooklyn will look to bounce back on Saturday at a non-conference trimatch hosted by Rutgers-Newark where the Bulldogs will take on host at 11am followed by a clash with RIT at 1pm.

With the score tied, 7-7, to start the match, the Bloodhounds made their move beginning with a 6-0 run before closing the first set out on back-to-back Brooklyn errors.  John Jay created separation early in the second set, jumping out to a 9-3 lead and keeping a comfortable advantage to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Brooklyn didn't fold and took a 7-5 lead following a four-score rally capped by an Olive Carroll service ace early in the third set.  BC kicked their lead up to 10-6 following a kill put away by Danielle Fuxman.  The teams would battle back-and-forth from that point on.  However, with the score tied 24-24, Brooklyn took the third set on back-to-back kills put away Fuxman and Saule Okeke-Ziburkus respectively.

Trailing 15-10 in the fourth set, Brooklyn wouldn't go away, stringing together three straight scores ending on a Fuxman kill.  Brooklyn pulled within a pair later in the set, 22-20, following two straight scores, but the Bloodhounds hung on to win down the stretch.

John Jay finished with 48 kills to the Bulldogs' 28 on the evening.  The Bloodhounds' Jadyn Orava led the way with a match-high 20 kills.

Fuxman led the BC offensive attack with 11 kills.  Carroll chipped in 7 kills to go along with a pair of service aces.  Ruti Joshi came up with a match-high 19 digs
