BC Men's Soccer Gains Crucial Conference Victory Over John Jay

Bulldogs Win Second Conference Game Against Bloodhounds

RANDALL'S ISLAND, New York ------ Coming into their third conference game of the season, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team would go against a familiar opponent from last year's CUNYAC quarterfinals in the John Jay College Bloodhounds. Having come away victorious last season and with both sides having one conference victory each, the pressure was on for a solid match. The Bulldogs would prevail in a huge win to remain unbeaten in conference play after a 2-1 win over John Jay College.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (7-4-1, 2-0-1 CUNYAC) have now won the last two conference games after beginning with a draw in their first match, while the John Jay College Bloodhounds (2-9-1, 1-1-1 CUNYAC) get handed their first conference loss this season.

John Jay would put the pressure on Brooklyn's goalie, Wilson Munoz early on, as he would make two saves to his bottom left at 7' and 11'. Eventually, they would break through as John Jay would take the early lead a few seconds later to make it 1-0 at 12'.

Fortunately, Munoz would not be tested further in the second half, as the Bulldogs would respond accordingly, eventually leading to the tying goal by Emir Imamberdiev at 20' to make it 1-1.

Knowing that both conference records were identical at halftime, both sides would come out trying to get a shot on offense. After earning a corner kick, Brooklyn's Adam Moharam would find Nikala Metreveli, who would unselfishly give it up to Andrew Gavrilov for the 2-1 lead early in the second half at 53'.

Gavrilov would continue to put the pressure on offense forcing the Bloodhounds' goalie to make a save at the bottom center at 67' and then one to his left at 70'. He would end the night with 2 goals on 4 shots, 3 on target.

After Munoz made two saves, Moharam would try to extend the lead with a shot to the bottom center that would be turned away at 78'. He would have 1 shot on goal to go along with his 1 assist.

The Bloodhounds would continue to put on the pressure, but Munoz would make two crucial saves in the waning minutes of the second half, diving to his right at 84' and then to his left at 88' to preserve the victory at 2-1.

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team continues conference play against the Medgar Evers College Cougars on Saturday, October 11th at 12:00pm.
