BC Women's Volleyball Sweeps Their Way to Semifinals

Bulldogs Take Down Lightning At Home In First Round Action

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into the first round of the CUNYAC women's volleyball tournament, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team looked to defend their home to advance into the semifinals, but in their way was a relentless Lehman College Lightning. Despite having beaten them on the road earlier in the season, it was the playoffs and anything can happen. Fortunately, the hoe team would get through in three sets [25-16, 25-16, 25-21] to advance to the semifinals match, getting to the spot where they left off last season.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (13-15, 5-2 CUNYAC) are now one game away from playing in the championship, while the Lehman College Lightning (4-15, 2-4 CUNYAC) end the season after putting up a fight as the number six seed.

Both sides would keep it close throughout the first set, but it would take a while before Brooklyn would finally pull away. With Lehman would cut the narrow lead down to just two points, Brooklyn would turn to Amra Mulic as their server. She would proceed to help Brooklyn serve a 7-0 run to take the set 25-16, including two aces to end the set. Amra Mulic would have 12 assists, 3 aces, 3 digs and 1 block for the game.

The second set would once again start relatively tight, but Ruti Joshi would serve two aces and an assist in the stretch to pull away 9-4. With the Bulldogs up 19-15 and the Lightning continuing to keep it close, it would be Joshi again who would step up, serving another ace and giving three assists to outscore the Lightning 6-1 in the process and take the second set 25-16 again. Ruti Joshi would end the day with 4 kills, 6 assists, 6 aces, and 5 digs, not playing libero at home for the first time this season.

The third set would last even longer, as the score would be tied at 14-14 midway through. With no one pulling away for good, Ruti Joshi would step up once again, delivering another three aces to help take a 21-15 lead. Lehman would not give up, keeping a close eye and staying within striking distance. Unable to put it away and up 24-21 with the threat of Lehman building momentum, Amra Mulic would deliver one last good pass to finish it off 25-21.

Up next, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team travels to face off against the second-ranked Baruch College Bearcats on Thursday, Novemeber 13th in the CUNYAC semifinals at 6:00pm
