BROOKLYN, New York ------- Coming into the home opener, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team looked to bounce back after a tough tournament showing in Massachusetts. In their way were the SUNY New Paltz Hawks team that had also lost their season opener. With both sides looking for their first win, the two sides looked to battle it out and leave it all on the floor. Unfortunately, the home opener did not go in Brooklyn College's way at all, as they would lose 91-51, continuing a long streak of not winning a home opener in some time.
The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (0-3) continues to search for their first victory this season, while the SUNY New Paltz Hawks (1-1) even their record after a convincing win.
Brooklyn would take their only lead of the game thanks to a three-point shot from Edmond Ruci to go up 3-1 with 19:13 left in the first half. New Paltz would respond scoring the next twelve points to take the lead for good. Ruci would end up being the leading scorer with 21 points along with 3 rebounds, 2 assists on 5-for-9 shooting from deep.
Though the Bulldogs would cut it to 24-20 with 7:56 left in the first half, the Hawks would score seventeen points in a row to take a 41-20 lead with 3:22 left in the half, taking a 46-26 score into the break.
With the score 48-28 early in the second half, New Paltz would once again go on an extensive run with twelve straight points to go up 60-28.
This story would carry on for the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs would only get as close as thirty-one points, before the Hawks would go up into the high thirties, and winning by forty, their largest lead of the night at 91-51.
Muneer Ibrahem would be the only other Brooklyn player in double digits with 10 points, 3 assists, one rebound, one steal, and one block on 4-for-8 shooting overall and 2-for-5 from deep.
