Brooklyn, NY---Off to their best start since since the 2017-18 Season, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team cruised to their fourth straight victory to start the season over Kean University, 78-61, on Tuesday at the West Quad Center. BC improves to 4-0 with the non-conference victory while the Cougars drops to 0-2 on the young season. Next Up: Brooklyn remains home on Saturday against Gallaudet University at 3pm at the West Quad Center.
Brooklyn jumped out to 14-0 lead to start the game beginning with an
Anna Kitch layup off of the opening tip-off. The Bulldogs kept the Cougars scoreless until the 4:39 mark in the first quarter when they managed their first bucket. BC closed out the first quarter on a made jumper drained by Aaliya McCalla for a 24-12 advantage.
The visitors cut the Brooklyn lead to as few as seven points, 28-21, with 7:54 to go in the first half before BC responded with a 14-0 run capped by a
Sheily Quezada made jumper. Brooklyn would go on to take a 47-27 halftime lead.
BC extended their lead to as many as 25 points in the second half following another Kitch fast-break layup with 8:30 to go in the third quarter. Kean pulled within as few as 15 points late in the fourth quarter, but the damage had been done.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Cougars, 26-10, on the offensive glass, outscoring the Cougars, 20-6, on second chance points for the contest. Kean committed 34 turnovers to the Bulldogs' 18 for the game.
Kitch led all scorers with a career-high 28 points. She finished with her fourth straight double-double, also grabbing 13 rebounds. Quezada added 16 points, grabbed 11 boards, blocked three shots, and came up with three steals. Freshman guard,
Adunoluwa Akinduyi, chipped in 10 points while shooting 2-3 from behind the arc off of the bench. Junior guard,
Brianna Jackson, did a stellar job steering the ship, finishing with 5 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, nd coming up with 5 steals.
