Brooklyn, NY----In a battle of two undefeated teams, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with No. 23 nationally-ranked Colby College, but was outlasted, 54-49, at the West Quad Center on Tuesday. BC moves to 5-1 with the loss while the Mules improved to 5-0. Next Up: Brooklyn will have an extended holiday break before opening conference play at home against CCNY on Friday, December 5, at 5pm.
Trailing by as many as 13 points, 47-34, with 2:56 to go in the third quarter, the Bulldogs stormed back beginning with a 7-0 run to close out the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 47-41 following an
Ameea Daniel three-point make. Brooklyn continued their momentum into the fourth quarter by scoring the first four points, cutting the Mules' lead to 47-45 with 8:10 remaining in regulation. However, the Bulldogs weren't able to get over the hump and tie the game.
Colby extended their lead back up to seven points, 54-47, with 1:50 remaining in the fourth quarter. BC's
Sheily Quezada made it a two possession following a layup, but the Bulldogs would go scoreless in the game's final minute.
A back-and-forth chess match through the first quarter, Brooklyn grabbed a 21-18 advantage following Daniel layup to head into the second quarter with a three-point lead. Brooklyn took their last lead of the game, 26-25, following a
Brianna Jackson made three with 5:56 to go in the first half. Colby would head into halftime with a 31-28 edge.
Brooklyn outscored the Mules, 21-4, in points off of turnovers. Colby committed 27 turnovers to Brooklyn's 14. However, the Mules outscored the Bulldogs, 30-24, in points in the paint.
Colby was led Kate Olenik's game-high 24 points.
Daniel led BC offensively finishing with 13 points. She also grabbed 7 rebounds on the evening. Jackson added 12 points, dished out 7 assists, and came up with 3 steals. Senior guard,
Dior Dorsey, also scored 12 points and came up with 3 steals.
