Bethlem, PA---Brooklyn College sophomore guard scored a team-high 20 points in the Steel City Classic Championship game as the BC women's basketball team defeated tournament host, Moravian University, 79-74, on Tuesday. Daniel would go on to be named to the All-Tournament team while Brooklyn junior guard,
Brianna Jackson, garnered Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. The Bulldogs improved to 9-3 with the championship victory while the Greyhounds dropped to 3-7. Next Up: Brooklyn returns to their conference slate at home against Baruch College on January 7 at 5pm.
Grabbing an eleven point to close out the first quarter, Brooklyn opened the second period on a 7-0 run sparked by a
Sheily Quezada made jumper. Brooklyn would go on to lead by as many as 20 points in the second quarter and had a 40-26 halftime advantage following a Jackson fast break layup.
Brooklyn never trailed in the game, opening the contest with a 4-0 lead following a pair of Jackson made jumpers. The Bulldogs closed out the first quarter with five unanswered points scored by freshman guard
Aaliyah McCalla.
Despite being down by as many as 20 points in the first half, the Greyhounds rallied in the fourth quarter, cutting the Bulldogs' advantage to 71-67 with 1:26 to go in regulation. However, the Bulldogs answered the call as Jackson scored the next four points of the game. With the Bulldogs clinging to a 77-72 lead with 23 seconds to go, BC junior guard iced the game at the free-throw line.
Brooklyn outscored Moravian 26-14 in points off of turnovers for the contest. The Bulldogs also capitalized on the offensive boards, outscoring the Greyhounds, 17-9, in second chance points.
Lizzie Lustig shared game-high scoring honors with Daniel, finishing with 20 points for Moravian.
Daniel grabbed 7 rebounds and came up with a pair of steals to go along with her game-high in scoring. Jackson finished with 17 points, grabbed 5 boards, came up with four steals, and dished out 4 assists. Kitch had the game's only double-double, finishing with 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Quezada flirted with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. She also block three shots on the afternoon.
