BC Men's Volleyball Travels to Rutgers-Newark for Non-Conference Trimatch

Newark, NJ----Traveling to Rutgers-Newark for a non-conference trimatch on Saturday, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team was defeated in both matches on the day, falling to the host, 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-19), before dropping a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-13) decision to St. Joseph's Long Island.  BC moves to 3-9 overall with the losses.  Next Up: The Bulldogs look to snap a six-match skid at home against Old Westbury on Tuesday at 6pm. 

How It Happened
  • Rutgers-Newark set the tone for the match right away, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the opening set.  Brooklyn would hang around early in the second set, the Scarlet Raiders scored nine straight to take a commanding 20-7 lead.  BC rallied late in the third set, cutting RUN's lead to 21-18 that included a Stefan Simon kill.  However, the home team responded win a three-score rally of their own for a 24-18 advantage. 
  • The Scarlet Raiders served up 14 aces to a solo ace for BC.  RUN hit .384 to Brooklyn's -.017 for the match. 
  • With the Bulldogs trailing, 7-6, in the first set of their second match, St. Joe's took control beginning with a four-score rally.  Brooklyn grabbed an 8-3 lead in the second set following a Jason Lin kill.  However, with BC clinging to a 14-13 lead, St. Joe's took the lead for good beginning with an 8-0 run.  St. Joe's jumped out to an 11-4 lead to start the third set and never looked back. 
  • St. Joe's finished the match with a 6-1 advantage in blocks.  They also served up 8 aces to BC's pair. 
For the Bulldogs
  • Aaron Siu and Joaquin Calderon led Brooklyn with 3 kills each against Rutgers-Newark. 
  • Simon put away a team-high 6 kills against St. Joseph's. 
  • Farid Akhundov set for a team-high 18 assists against the Golden Eagles.
