BC Women's Basketball Cruises to Victory at CCNY in Regular Season Finale

NEW YORK, New York ------ Coming into Tuesday evening's regular season finale, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team found themselves traveling to the City College of New York to finish off against their conference opponents. The Bulldogs came in hoping to not only host a match, but have the chance at a first round bye, pending the result of the game between Baruch and Lehman. Though they may not get a first round bye, Brooklyn has built momentum after defeating the Beavers on the road 82-37.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs () now ride a three-game winning streak into the postseason, while the City College of New York Beavers (1-18, 1-11 CUNYAC) could keep their head up after a better fourth quarter despite their season ending today.

How It Happened

Brooklyn's offense would jump out to a 14-0 run, led by Dior Dorsey, who scored nearly half of those points, but it was their defense that would hold this lead until the 4:19 mark of the first quarter, one that they would eventually win 28-6.

The Bulldogs would start off the second quarter similarly, getting off to a 9-0 run to go up 37-6 with 7:35 to go in the half, a run that would carry on up until taking a 46-18 lead into halftime.

Both quarters up until that point had started with a run, but none as long as the 20-0 run that was born off the great defense that Brooklyn had played on City College, going up 66-18 after taking advantage of the turnovers, eventually taking a 75-23 lead after three quarters of play.

The fourth quarter would also start of similarly, but in an interesting turn of events after the Bulldogs started off with a 7-0 run, the Beavers would finally respond and proceed to go on a 14-0 run to end the game. Despite that it was too little too late, the Bulldogs would take it 82-37.

For the Bulldogs

  • Dorsey led the way in two categories scoring 20 points and getting 6 steals, while also grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing 2 assists.
  • Anna Kitch would have a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with 1 assist, 1 block, and 1 steal.
  • Mary Dolgin would score 12 points, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 6 rebounds off the bench.
  • Danae McMullin would grab a total of 13 rebounds, 4 of them offensive, while scoring 4 points and blocking 1 shot.

Up next, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team prepares to host a quarterfinals game with the Medgar Evers College Cougars on Saturday, February 22nd at a time to be announced.
