BC Women's Basketball Beats Baruch On the Road to Advance To CUNYAC Championship

Bulldogs Make It to Tenth Tournament Final In A Row

NEW YORK, NY ------ Finding themselves on the road with a chance to go to the CUNYAC Championship for the tenth time in a row, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team would go up against the number two seeded Baruch College Bearcats, a team that split the series in the regular season. The last time these two teams had faced each other in the ARC Arena, the Bearcats got the better of the Bulldogs, but everybody knew this game could go either way. While Baruch may have been the higher seed with home court in their favor, Brooklyn was the four-time defending champions, and they showed that it was nothing to sniff at, pulling a momentum-building victory against Baruch by a score of 62-48.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (16-11, 10-4 CUNYAC) currently ride a five-game winning streak that has come at just the right moment, while the Baruch College Bearcats (14-11, 11-3 CUNYAC) close the season after a stellar run.

How It Happened

Brooklyn would come out running on all cylinders, starting it off with an 8-0 run led by Ameea Daniel on both sides of the floor with 5:55 left in the first quarter, setting the tone for a 19-10 lead after one.

The Bullodgs and Bearcats would trade baskets in the second quarter, though the Bulldogs would go up by as many as eleven points, but not before the Bearcats would climb back in, going into the half with a 28-21 score in favor of the visitors.

Baruch would play a stronger third quarter, bringing themselves within three with 6:28 to go in the quarter, but Brooklyn would pull away once again with a 5-0 run, eventually reaching their largest lead up until that point of twelve. Brooklyn would keep a 43-35 after three quarters of play.

The Bearcats would keep it as close as possible, but as they trailed by seven, Brooklyn would go on an extensive 9-0 run catalyzed by Alina Estrella with 1:35 to go, eventually winning it by a score of 62-48.

For the Bulldogs

  • Alina Estrella led the way in scoring with a near triple-double of 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.
  • Ameea Daniel would just shy of a double-double with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal.
  • Dior Dorsey would be the third Bulldog in double digits with 10 points, but would lead on the defensive end of the floor with a block and 5 steals.

Up next, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team travel to Hunter College to face the hosts and try and win their fifth title in a row against the Hawks on Thursday, February 27th at 6:00pm.
