BC Men's Volleyball Wins First Conference Match Against York

Bulldogs Win Second Home Game In A Row

BROOKLYN, New York ----- Coming into Thursday night's conference matchup, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team searched for their first conference win of the season against the York College Cardinals. In only their second home game this season, second in a row, the Bulldogs would come out strong with a sweep in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) to make it two victories in a row.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (5-9, 1-1 CUNYAC) have taken a step in the right direction, starting up a winning streak that they hope to carry on, while the York College Cardinals (5-9, 0-2 CUNYAC) continue to search for their first conference win.

How It Happened

York would strike first, but Brooklyn would go on a 4-0 run to retake the lead. Though York would tie it up 5-5, Brooklyn would go on another run that would keep the lead for good, inspiring them to go on several runs, including the 6-1 run towards the end of the first set to take it 25-16.

The second set would go a lot similarly to the first one, as the Cardinals would strike first again before the Bulldogs would go on another run. The Bulldogs' most extensive run would be a 5-0 run catapulted by Aaron Siu's two aces, taking a 20-11 lead, that would lead to a 25-17 set win.

Both teams would go back and forth in the third set, though York would keep it close after a 4-0 run that bought them within two. However, Brooklyn would respond with a few short runs that would ultimately end in the Jason Lin ace that put York away 25-16 to complete the sweep.

For the Bulldogs

  • Siu led the attack with 10 kills, 3 aces, 4 digs, and 2 blocks.
  • Joaquin Calderon would have 10 kills as well, while being the only Bulldog with a solo block.
  • Lin would be on both sides of the floor, leading with 4 blocks, while htting 3 aces and 3 kills.
  • David Lema would do more than just lead the Bulldogs with 29 assists, getting 1 ace, 1 kill, 2 blocks, and 3 digs.

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team goes on the road to The DogHouse for a CUNYAC Tri-Match on Saturday, March 1st against the host, John Jay College Bloodhounds, at 11:00 am and the Hunter College Hawks at 1:00pm in conference play.
