Boston, MA----The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped a pair non-conference matches at a trimatch hosted by Emmanuel College on Saturday. In their first match of the day, the Bulldogs fell to the host, 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-17) before being outlasted by SUNY Polytechnic, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16). BC moves to 3-5 overall with the losses. Next Up: Brooklyn completes their trip to Massachusetts on Sunday with a single match at Curry College at 12pm.
How It Happened vs. Emmanuel
- The host school jumped out to a 12-6 lead to start the match before BC clawed their way back into the opening set with a 5-0 run that included back-to-back aces served up by David Lema. However, the Saints solidified the first set victory with a four-score rally to take a comfortable 20-14 lead down the stretch.
- BC bounced back well to start the second set, taking a 14-9 lead following a three-point rally sparked by an Aaron Siu kill. With the teams battling back-and-forth for the remainder of the set, Brooklyn would take a 26-25 lead before the Saints took a 2-0 advantage in the match thanks to a 3-0 run.
- With Bulldogs trailing 18-16 in the third set, the home team took full control of the set and match thanks to a six-score rally.
- EC hit .289 as a team to the Bulldogs' .120 and finished with a 9-5 advantage in blocks. Brooklyn had a 24-21 edge in digs.
For the Bulldogs vs. Emmanuel
- Siu put away a match-high 10 kills while hitting .471. He also came up with 5 digs.
- Joaquin Calderon finished with 6 kills.
- Lema set for 16 assists and finished with a pair of service aces.
How It Happened vs. SUNY Polytechnic
- SUNY Poly raced out to a 7-2 lead to start the match and never looked back to take the first set. Brooklyn scored first in the second set before the Wildcats responded with a 5-0 run. BC would take a 9-8 lead thanks in part to a four-score run capped by back-to-back Siu aces. With score tied, 10-10, the Wildcats took the second set lead for good beginning with 5-0 flurry.
- Already leading 11-8 in the third set, SUNY Poly put the match away for good beginning with a 9-1 run.
- The Wildcats hit .375 to the Bulldogs' .162 for the match. They also finished with a 26-15 advantage in digs. BC had a 4-3 edge in blocks.
For the Bulldogs vs. SUNY Polytechnic
- Jason Lin led the way in kills with 5. He also had a block assist.
- Jiaian Flanders also finished with 5.5 points on 3 kills and a pair of service aces.
- Calderon added 4 kills and a pair of block assists to his day.
