New York, NY----In another late-season conference battle, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team was edged, 56-55, at John Jay on Saturday. Brooklyn moves to 11-11 overall (7-4 CUNYAC) while the Bloodhounds improve to 8-14 (6-5 CUNYAC) respectively. It was BC's first loss to the Bloodhounds in the last 32 tries. Next Up: Brooklyn looks to bounce back at York on Tuesday at 5:00 pm in conference play.
How It Happened
- With the Bulldogs trailing, 54-49, with 1:49 left in regulation, BC's Anna Kitch drained back-to-back threes, giving Brooklyn with 1:04 to go. However, the Bloodhounds were able to get a key stop in the final minute of play and John Jay's Ashley Zoella knocked down a pair of free-throws with :22 left in the second half to help the home team take the lead for good. Brooklyn's came up short on the final possession of the game.
- Trailing 36-29 with 5:31 to go in the third quarter, Brooklyn put together a 10-0 run to take their largest lead of the second half, 39-36, at the :30 mark. John Jay closed out the quarter with two unanswered buckets for a 40-39 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
- Brooklyn overcame seven-point deficit early in the second quarter, cutting it down to 25-24 following an Ameea Daniel three with 3:36 to go in the first half. John Jay would head into halftime with a 30-27 lead following a Kitch three-point make.
- John Jay shot 41.2% from the field as a team for the game to BC's 27.0%. The Bloodhounds also outscored Brooklyn 17-11 in points off of turnovers. BC out-rebounded John Jay, 15-5, on the offensive boards.
For the Bulldogs
- Kitch finished with a team-high 18 points while shooting 5-10 from behind the arc. She also pulled down 8 rebounds.
- Daniel added 11 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
- Alina Estrella chipped in 10 points and dished out 5 assists.
