BC Softball Hosts St. Joseph's Long Island In Home Opener

BROOKLYN, New York ----- The Brooklyn College Softball team hosted their first pair of home games this season against the St. Joseph's University-Long Island Golden Eagles in non-conference action. In their last meeting, both teams split the doubleheader. The Bulldogs would rally back in the first game, but would come up short to lose 6-5, before later dropping the second game by a score of 16-3.

The Bulldogs (2-7) drop their first two home games of the season, while the St. Joseph's University-Long Island Golden Eagles (4-0) remain undefeated this season. Up next, the Brooklyn College softball team travels to face the Purchase College Panthers for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15th starting at 11:00am.

Game 1

How it Happened

  • The Golden Eagles would take the lead in the third inning of the first game with a score of 4-0.
  • The Bulldogs wouldn't rally until the sixth inning. After a walk put up the first points for the Bulldogs, Melanie Millan would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home another run to make it 4-2. With the game in the balance, Lianna Gonzalez would hit a 2 RBI-single to tie the game at 4-4.
  • St. Joseph's Long-Island would strike again in the top of the seventh inning with a 2 RBI-single that put them up 6-4 over Brooklyn.
  • Brooklyn would tack on one more run with the bases loaded, but their rally would come up short as they lost 6-5 in the first game.
For the Bulldogs

Game 2

How it Happened
  • The Golden Eagles would jump to an early 6-0 lead at the top of the first inning.
  • The Bulldogs would respond in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI-single from Zoey Van Vleet to make it 6-1. Afterwards, Millan would hit an RBI-triple that would bring Van Vleet home to cut the lead to 6-2.
  • St. Joseph's-Long Island would proceed to tack on 7 runs in the third inning to make it 13-2
  • Milan would hit her second hit of the night with another RBI-single to make it 13-3 in the bottom of the third, but that would be the last point Brooklyn would put up, as they would lose 16-3.
For the Bulldogs
  • Millan would go a perfect 2-for-2, bringing in 2 RBI on 2-for-2 hitting.
  • Van Vleet went 1-for-2, scoring a run and hitting an RBI.
