BC Men's Volleyball Grabs Sixth Conference Win of Season Against CCNY

Two Versus Beavers And Two Conference Wins As Bulldogs Sweep Again

HARLEM, New York ------ In their second encounter of the season, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team and the City College of New York Beavers met in another conference match. The Bulldogs had the opportunity at a winning record in the conference, but would have to do so on the road. Despite the odds and a Beavers team that would not go down quietly, Brooklyn College would beat City College in three sets [25-21, 25-14, 25-22] on the road. The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (10-14, 6-5 CUNYAC) gain an important victory that moves them up with a winning conference record, while the City College of New York Beavers (4-15, 3-9 CUNYAC) continue to falter in the conference.

How It Happened

Brooklyn would strike first in the first set, prompting CCNY to respond accordingly, a pattern that followed in the first set. CCNY would try and creep in cutting it to three many times, but with kills from Brooklyn's Joaquin Calderon, they were able to put them away 25-21.

The Beavers would take a brief lead early on in the second set, but the Bulldogs would respond by scoring the next five points to retake the lead 6-2. As the Bulldogs would extend their lead, the Beavers kept trying to cut into the lead, keeping the differential consistent. With the score 18-14, the Bulldogs Stefan Simon would come up to serve, proceeding to serve four service aces to inspire a 7-0 run that would close out the set 25-14.

With the score tied 8-8, Brooklyn would go on to score the next four points. CCNY would respond, cutting the lead to 22-21. With all the pressure, CCNY would take a timeout, but Brooklyn would be the one to come out ready after the timeout, scoring the next two points, enough to edge CCNY and take the third set 25-22.

For the Bulldogs

  • Simon 5 aces, 9 kills, 4 digs
  • Davis Lema 35 assists, 2 aces, 5 digs, 2 kills
  • Aaron Siu 11 kills, 2 assists, 1 block, 7 digs
  • Calderon 15 kills, 1 block, 3 digs

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team comes back home to face their cross-borough conference rival in the Medgar Evers College Cougars on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:00pm.
