Brooklyn, NY----Rolling to their second straight non-conference sweep at home, the Brooklyn College softball team defeated Yeshiva University, 17-2 (5 Innings), in Game 1 before closing out the day with an 8-0 (5 Innings) in Game 2 of a twin bill at Brooklyn College Field on Friday. BC improves to 6-9 overall with the wins while the Maccabees drop to 1-13. Next Up: Brooklyn is right back at it on Saturday on the road for another non-conference doubleheader at Sarah Lawrence at 12pm.
Game 1: Brooklyn- 17, Yeshiva- 2 (5 Innings)
Danielle Guzzardi pitched three innings of shutout softball to earn her third win of the season. Both of Yeshiva's runs were unearned.
The Bulldogs got out on top in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on a hit. BC added four more runs to their total in next inning, highlighted by an RBI triple crushed by
Dasha Goodman to score
Vida Rodriguez.
Molly Martin also doubled in the second inning.
Brooklyn scored three runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning including an inside-the-park homer clubbed by Martin. The Bulldogs tacked on six more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on eight hits.
Martin was 3-4 with two RBI.
Melanie Millan was 3-4 and scored a pair of runs.
Zoey Van Vleet was 1-2, walked, scored twice, and had 3 RBI.
Game 2: Brooklyn 8, Yeshiva- 0 (5 Innings)
Guzzardi earned her second win of the day in three innings of work, not yielding a hit while striking out four Maccabees. Martin would come in for relief to close out the game, yielding YU's lone hit of the game while forcing the Macs into four ground-outs.
Brooklyn got on the board once again in the bottom of the first inning, scoring pair of runs including an RBI single belted by Martin to score Goodman. With Guzzardi dealing, the Bulldogs took full control in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs on four hits including a 2-RBI single hit by Van Vleet. BC scored their final run of the day in the bottom of the third inning on a Millan RBI single that scored
Hailey Johnston.
Van Vleet was 2-3 with two RBI. Millan was 2-3 with two RBI and scored. Johnston scored two for the game and singled.
