Bronxville, NY----Earning their third straight non-conference sweep, the Brooklyn College softball team trumped in both games of a twin bill at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday. BC shutout the Gryphons, 6-0, in the first game of the day before closing out the afternoon with a 14-2 in Game 2. The Bulldogs improve to 8-9 overall with the victories while SLC drops to 0-12. Next Up: Brooklyn opens their CUNYAC schedule at home against the defending conference champs, John Jay, for a doubleheader at Brooklyn College Field beginning at 4pm.
Game 1: Brooklyn- 6, SLC- 0
Danielle Guzzardi pitched a seven-inning gem for the Bulldogs, shutting out the Gryphons and only yielded one hit in the final inning. She struck out a season-high 16 batters.
A scoreless game through the first two innings, Brooklyn broke it wide-open in the top of the third, scoring five runs on a two hits.
Vida Rodriguez cracked a 2-RBI single to score
Melanie Millan and
Paige Alaia-Palacios to give BC a 2-0 lead. The next at-bat,
Lianna Gonzalez belted an RBI single that scored
Dasha Goodman.
Brooklyn tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on a
Molly Martin RBI single that scored Gonzalez.
Goodman was 3-3 and walked. Millan was 2-4. Guzzardi earned her fifth win of the season.
Game 2: Brooklyn- 14, SLC- 2
The home team took a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning on a solo homer. Brooklyn tied it up in the second inning on a
Zoey Van Vleet RBI single that
Ashley Konner who led the inning off with a walk.
Goodman gave Brooklyn a 2-1 lead in the third inning after clubbing her first home run of the season. BC created more separation in the fourth inning, scoring five more runs to take a 7-1 lead. The fourth inning rally included a 2-RBI Rodriguez single that scored Alaia-Palacios and Millan.
Already leading 9-2 in the seventh inning, Brooklyn scored five more runs for the final score. Martin led off the inning with a single before she scored on an RBI single hit by Alaia-Palacios.
Jenna Hood would get in the mix, hitting an RBI single to send Rodriguez home for the Bulldogs' final run of the afternoon.
Martin would earn the win in the circle, pitching four innings, only giving up a pair of hits, and wasn't charged with a run. Van Vleet was 2-3, scored twice, and had an RBI. Goodman was 2-4, scored three runs, and had 4 RBI. Rodriguez and Gonzalez were also 2-4.
