Myrtle Beach, SC----After being rained out on Wednesday, the Brooklyn College softball team opened the 2025 campaign with a pair of games in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic on Thursday. The Bulldogs dropped their morning game, 9-1 (5 Innings), to Waynesberg University before falling to Grove City College, 12-2 (5 Innings), in their afternoon tilt. Brooklyn will make up their postponed game from Wednesday with Kenyon College on Friday, March 7, at 9am.
How It Happened
- Waynesburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning beginning with a lead-off homer. Brooklyn cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning as Dasha Goodman drove home Sage Bernstein on an RBI single. The Yellow Jackets tacked on a run in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice before scoring five runs in the fifth inning for the victory.
- Brooklyn managed a pair of hits to the Yellow Jackets' 11.
- Leading 1-0 after the first inning, Grove City scored six runs in the second inning on six hits. BC scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on a 2-RBI single slapped by Zoey Van Vleet, sending Vida Rodriguez and Goodman home.
For the Bulldogs
- Danielle Guzzardi pitched Game 1 and was charged with 7 earned runs on the 11 Waynesburg hits. She struck out three batters on the morning.
- Molly Martin pitched all four innings of Game 2 and was charged with 9 earned runs on 12 hits.
- Aaliyah Vargas and Goodman singled in Game 1.
- Van Vleet and Rodriguez singled in Game 2 while Lianna Gonzalez hit BC's first double of the season.
