Myrtle Beach, SC----On Sunday, the Brooklyn College softball pulled out a split on their final day of games in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Bulldogs dropped a 9-0 decision to Penn State Harrisburg in their first game of the afternoon before heading back to New York on a high note with a victory over Dean College in their final game of their trip. Next Up: Brooklyn hosts their Home Opener on Tuesday, 3/11, against Yeshiva with the non-conference double bill beginning at 4pm.
How It Happened
- Penn State Harrisburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Nittany Lions added a run in the third before tacking on three runs each in the fifth and seventh innings. PSH finished the game with 16 hits.
- Brooklyn had runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings against the Nittany Lions, but were left stranded. The Bulldogs finished with six hits against Penn State Harrisburg.
- In the second game, Brooklyn would take an early lead in the first inning off a double from Vida Rodriguez to take a 1-0 lead.
- Continuing their lead, Brooklyn would score four runs on one play, as Molly Martin would hit a double to left field that would bring home 2 RBI and bring home three more base runners off an error to make it 5-0.
- Dean would get themselves on the board scoring the next three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make it 5-3, but a sacrifice bunt from Martin would help Brooklyn extend their lead, adding on two runs in the sixth to make it 7-3.
- A late surge from Dean would bring them within two, but Brooklyn's sixth inning would allow them to hold on and win it 7-5.
For the Bulldogs
- Vida Rodriguez and Ashley Konner both went 2-3 against the Nittany Lions.
- Zoey Van Vleet would go 3-4, scoring 2 runs in the process against Dean.
- Sage Bernstein would hit 2-3 against Dean.
- Martin earned her first win in the circle as a Bulldog, going 5.2 innings without being charged with an earned run while yielding 10 hits.
- Danielle Guzzardi relieved Martin in the sixth inning and was credited for the save, pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless softball.
