BC Men's Volleyball Goes Toe-to-Toe With Hunter To End Regular Season

Bulldogs Take Second-Ranked Hawks To the Limit

NEW YORK, New York ---- Coming into the regular season finale, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team would find themselves on the road in a battle with their conference rivals, the Hunter College Hawks. The Bulldogs would hold their own against second-ranked Hawks, but they would eventually lose in three sets. [21-25, 20-25, 11-25]

Despite the loss, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (13-14, 9-5 CUNYAC) finish with a winning record in the conference for the first time since the 2018 season. Meanwhile the Hunter College Hawks (17-10, 12-2 CUNYAC) finish with one game shy of the top seed in the conference.

How It Happened

Hunter would get the ball rolling, responding with a 5-0 run that would set the tone for the set, taking an early 5-1 lead. Brooklyn would once again respond to bring the score within 7-6, but Hunter would once again go on to score the next seven points, going on a 10-1 run to make it 17-7. This pattern would continue, bringing Brooklyn within four late in the first set before Hunter would close it out to take it 25-21.

The second set would feature a total of seven tied scores, as each team would trade leads after they made their run. The Bulldogs would take a few leads in this set, including the middle of the set, where they rallied four straight points to take a 14-10 lead, a lead that would last for a good part of the set. Just when it looked as though the Bulldogs would have the chance to take the set, grasping on to the lead breaking every run, the Hawks would creep in an score four points in a row to take a 20-18 lead. The Bulldogs would fight back, cutting it to three, but the Hawks would end it with a 4-0 run and take it 25-20.

Brooklyn would strike first, but Hunter showed why they were ranked so high in the conference, going on a pair of 5-0 runs to take a 20-8 lead, forcing the Bulldogs into a tough hole to dig out, as the Hawks would take it 25-11 to secure the game.
