Bulldogs Swept, But Put Up Fight Versus The Hawks

NEW YORK, New York ------- Playing in their first conference semifinals match in eight years, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team found themselves face-to-face with the number two ranked Hunter College Hawks on the road. The Bulldogs were hoping to build off the momentum from hosting their first playoff game in years on Tuesday, but unfortunately it would all end in three sets [17-25, 15-25, 14-25] in the CUNYAC Semifinals.

The Hunter College Hawks (18-10, 12-2 CUNYAC) move on to the CUNYAC Championship match tomorrow against either number four John Jay or number one Baruch College. Despite the season ending in a sweep, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (14-15, 9-5 CUNYAC) can hold their head high, finishing with a better record in recent years, while also making it to the semifinals for the first time in almost a decade.

How It Happened

The first set would start off with two tied scores before Hunter would begin to pull away outscoring Brooklyn with a pair of runs to go up 10-4. Even though Aaron Siu attempting to keep Brooklyn in the game with 3 kills in the set, ultimately, Hunter would take it 25-17.

The Bulldogs would strike first in the second set, and although the Hawks would try to pull away, the Bulldogs would rally back to tie it 6-6. The Hawks would respond by scoring the next eight points, their largest run of the day, to go up 14-6, proving enough to extend and maintain the lead to win it 25-15.

The third set would feature four tied scores, including the one that saw Brooklyn's minimal difference scrapped to make it 5 a piece. Hunter would score eight points straight once again to take a definitive 12-5 lead that would ultimately result in the 25-14 score to take the set and the game.

For the Bulldogs

The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team has a lot to look forward to next season, led by their first-year head coach in Moaz Choudhary and a roster of talent that showed they can get far when given the chance.
