Bulldogs Roll Over Cardinals At Home to Even Conference Record

BROOKLYN, New York ---- Coming into spring break, the Brooklyn College softball team looked to break their six-game skid overall. Not only did they want to break that long skid, but they also hoped to gain their first conference victory against their opponent, the York College Cardinals, after dropping the first conference doubleheader of the season. Fortunately, the break would do no damage, as the Bulldogs were able to sweep themselves to victory by scores of 13-1 and 15-0 respectively, The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (10-15, 2-2 CUNYAC) gain their first pair of conference victories and reach double digits once again in both the score and in hits, making it to ten wins overall. Meanwhile the York College Cardinals (3-15, 0-4 CUNYAC) continue to search for their first conference victory.

Game 1

Brooklyn poured on an entourage of runs in the first inning, scoring ten runs in an inning for the first time this season. Melanie Millan would hit a triple twice in the inning, bringing home 3 of Brooklyn's 10 in the first, while Lianna Gonzalez would also do damage of her own with an RBI-triple to left center and an RBI-double to left field.

The Bulldogs would tack on another run in the the second off an RBI-single from Bernstein, and would proceed to tack on two more in the third to make it 13-0.

York would get a lonesome run in the fourth inning to break both a perfect game and no-hitter, after some excellent base-running from Madison Plaza, with a single to right field to make the final score 13-1.

  • Melanie Millan 2-for-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI, including two triples
  • Lianna Gonzalez 3-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI, a double, a triple, and 11 put outs on defense.

Game 2

After the Bulldogs would load the bases to go up 1-0 in the first inning, Zoey Van Vleet would hit a 2 RBI-double to make it 3-0, starting off her perfect hitting for the day.

Everybody in the Brooklyn lineup became involved again in the second inning tacking on four more runs, including an RBI-double from Melanie Millan and an RBI-triple from Lianna Gonzaelez, similar to the first game, making it 5-0.

A pair pof RBI-singles would put two more runs for the Bulldogs to make it 7-0, setting up an offenseive barrage to close out the game. In the bottom of the fourth, Brooklyn would go on to score 8 runs in the process, including an RBI-single from Ashley Konner, her second of the night and an RBI-double from Gonzalez, to close out the shutout 15-0. Molly Martin pitched her first shutout of the season, only allowing 2 hits on the day.

Up next, the Brooklyn College softball team travels to the Bronx tomorrow, April 16th, to take on the Lehman College Lightning starting at noon.
